I led BAW's Crawl at Stanage this weekend, which is properly bonkers. HVS is about right (or maybe MXS?) but it's a full body workout that requires few of the techniques you might learn indoors. Proper grit.
Anyway, Rich took some pictures, so I thought I'd put them online. I really need to relearn how to write proper markup...
So, from the boulder, hang the edge and get a solid heel hook above your head.
Hands into the upper break.
Foot in deeper, hands into the roof crack. You could layback this if there was anything to push against.
Deeper, deeper.
Swing yourself completely into the break. This feels horrendous, and requires the use of every muscle group.
And relax. Hands off rest here, flat on your back.
Then stand up, and it's just a step up and a reach for the top. If you're tall. I had a nerve-shredding rockover using a manky sloper into the top break before I could latch the top. Brilliant route.
