I went to Svalbard, in arctic Norway, in the summer of 2009. Here are a few of the photos I took, along with a very brief outline of what we did. I may expand on this at some stage, but for now I just want to get some pics online.
Longyearbyen is most people's first impression of Svalbard. It's a strange place, with a bit of a wild west feel to it. This is partly due to the folk carrying rifles through town. Not a pretty town, but the location's pretty amazing. Phil is on a plateau above the town.
We took a small ship - Langoysund - across Isfjord to King Oscar II Land, where we'd be trekking and climbing for two weeks.

We saw a polar bear from the ship. It's the white blob swimming in the middle of this picture. No, really.
See? I told you.
We waved goodbye to Langoysund's boat, and we were ready to go.
